Overview of Technician Entry-Level Certification in PMDB

Basic Information

Upon completion of these requirements, you will have earned the designation BCB-PMD-T™.

Board certification is open to licensed PTAs and COTAs.


Candidates must file an application and demonstrate completion or proof of:

  • current license/credential for independent practice as an assistant in physical and occupational therapy.
  • proof of legal supervision.
  • a 28-hour didactic education program specifically covering all topics as listed in the BCIA Blueprint of Knowledge taken from a BCIA-accredited training program.
  • a four-hour practicum/personal training session, 12 contact hours spent with a BCIA-approved mentor to learn to apply the clinical biofeedback skills through 30 patient/client sessions, and case conference presentations with an additional 6 hours spent with your mentor to enhance your skills. Lists of BCIA certified providers who may serve as mentors are posted on this website through Find a Practitioner.
  • the written certification exam, which may be taken using the special exam option which allows a pre-approved candidate to schedule their exam to be taken on their own computer and monitored for security using our online proctoring service.  The exam should be the taken as nearly the last requirement.  It is formatted as a multiple-choice test with only one right answer for each item.  Please study the Core Reading List to prepare for the exam.
  • payment of certification fees.  You may mail in your application along with a check for the filing fee or you may pay online using this link.

Where Do I Start?

The first step is filing a pelvic muscle dysfunction biofeedback certification application. The filing fees is $150 and must be paid at the time the application is submitted using this link.  You may also mail your application and include a check for $150.  Once your application has been approved and fees received, you may schedule a time for your exam. 

A completed application must include a copy of your license, your supervisor's license and payment of filing fees. You may complete your requirements in any order. You may download these documents: ApplicationBlueprint of Knowledge, Mentoring Guidelines, Professional Standards and Ethical Principles of Biofeedback, and Exam Registration Form.

All candidates must agree to abide by the Professional Standards and Ethical Principles of Biofeedback of Biofeedback and follow the appropriate rules and regulations of their profession and their state.

Certification is valid for four years. To recertify, the candidate must demonstrate completion of 30 hours of blueprint-related continuing education, must attest that their supervisor has not changed and their own license/credential has not been suspended, investigated, or revoked, and submit a $225 recertification fee.
