EEG Neuro Strategies Webinar - Neuroinflammation and Brain Health | NeuroTraining Strategies
Wednesday, December 04, 2024, 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM MST
Category: Events
Presented by: Santiago Brand, BCB, BCN, QEEG DL Brain care and rehabilitation previously focused exclusively on neurons. However, recent research shows that glial cells, which comprise about 50% of the total number of human brain cells, play a major role in brain health. Glial cells are important components for functional neuroplasticity in memory and cognition. They participate in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to neurons, maintain the blood-brain barrier, and recycle neurotransmitters released from synapses. A subset of the glial cell population, microglia, act as the brain’s trash collectors, help to repair injuries to the brain and spinal cord, and are the main source of proinflammatory cytokines, which mediate neuroinflammation. To sum it up, healthy glial cells are vital for lowering the risk of many neurodegenerative disorders and assisting with healing in cases of traumatic brain injury and stroke.
